Art Showcase: Wijnand x De TelefoonCentrale

The Exhibition

From June through August 2025, Wijnand presented a selection of his pop art, street art and mixed-media works at De TelefoonCentrale in Alkmaar. Once a telecom station, the building has grown into a dynamic creative hub filled with small businesses, makers and independent professionals. Its industrial corridors, concrete walls and constant activity created a raw, energetic environment that amplified the colour and attitude of the artworks.

Throughout the summer, visitors, tenants and creatives from inside and outside the building stopped by to explore the collection — many returning for a second look. The open setting made the exhibition feel accessible and alive: art that people encountered in their daily rhythm rather than in a traditional gallery setting.

A Diverse Body of Work

For this exhibition, Wijnand brought together different pillars of his evolving style:

- Bold Pop Culture & Cartoon Pieces Bold, colourful reinterpretations of iconic characters with a twist.
- Women of the World a series that drew a lot of attention for its contrast of elegance and boldness.
- Abstract Energy Works Two large abstract pieces, full of sweeping movement and layered colour
- Street-Influenced Characters Pieces with sharper outlines, texture-heavy paint and a clear street-art attitude

Highlights

The response to the exhibition was strong. Several works found new homes, and the show led to fresh commissions, new contacts and conversations about future collaborations. For many visitors, it was their first introduction to Wijnand’s work — and for returning followers, a clear sign of his artistic growth.

The contrast between the raw building and the bright colour palettes created a distinctive atmosphere that matched Wijnand’s direction perfectly: accessible, bold and unapologetically visual.

What’s Next

The TelefoonCentrale showcase marked an important step in defining Wijnand’s artistic identity — a stronger, more recognizable mix of pop culture, bold colour and modern storytelling. New works are already in development, including expanded pop-art series and cartoon-glitch pieces.
